Brighter Beauty Kate Winslet

For this blog, I'm not in the habit of highlighting celebrities. In today's over-exposed celebrities, people being famous for being famous, and creating heroes and idols out of movie stars, I am trying to limit my intake of celebrity gossip. Despite my intentions to avoid such news, I do try to stay on top of things to see what new and interesting beauty tips I can provide you with. Granted, I don't think I've done a good job of that, primarily because most of the treatments or products are too expensive.

With all that said, the Oscars are always good for some beautiful looks. Over the next few days, I'm going to try to highlight some of my favorite Oscar looks.

Makeup artist Jillian Dempsey (Patrick Dempsey's wife) used Lancome La Base Pro primer to prepare the face.
Eyes: Avon Pro Eyeshadow Trio in Ice Shimmer and Lancome Brow Expert in Naturel on the brows. Avon Pro Mascara in Black.
Lips: Lancome Color Fever Lipstick in Old Flame

Congrats on a well-deserved Oscar win Kate!

Trick or Tool?

I love polishing my nails. It's a fun way to add color to my wardrobe and it's my little way of relaxing. Thankfully I'm fairly ambidextrous too, so painting my right hand is actually pretty fun. That being said, I have wondered if I could do something more unique with my polish. There are a couple of blogs solely devoted to nail polish that I read and they put me to shame. I don't have a Konad (see Siobhan's blog for more on that), nor are my nails THAT long. So when I happened upon Avon's newest nail polish, I admit I'm intrigued.

Change Artist Transforming Nail Color by Avon. What a brilliant idea! Remember when French manicures were all the rage? They've since become less ubiquitous, so this is the same idea, just in color! I know you could totally do this yourself with your own polish, but at $5.49, I'd be willing to give it a shot. Avon seems to offer various nail novelties, including those peel on nail colors.

Is this just a gimmick though? The container reminds me of MAC's Pro Longwear lipsticks with the color on one side with the clear top coat on the other. I've never had any success with them being as long lasting as they claim. Is this nail polish similar? Getting that color change seems easy enough, it's the clean, crisp line that looks to be the difficult part. There's no mention of how to achieve the desired affect, so if you're not steady in the hand, it may end up looking tacky. If anybody has tried it, let me know! You can find the polish online here.
